we went to the doctor for a check up and sonogram on monday, and we finally saw your pretty face. i have to admit: although i have been carrying you around in my belly (the way fat b****** says it in "Austin Powers" just played in my head) for more than 16 weeks, seeing you on that computer monitor somehow made you real. it transformed you from some vague alien lifeform-esque concept in to reality for me and your dad.
the x-ray tech seems to think you will be our baby girl. what a blessing you will be either way. when dad and i were at grandma's house in iowa for Christmas, she took us shopping for you. she had to make sure you had cute outfits, warm outfits, and a couple of "firsts" outfits too. it was fun. we found a warm, long-sleeved, footed outfit for you. i think it was intended for baby boys, but i absolutely can not wait to see you in it next football season at one of daddy's games. i am convinced you will wear it very well. i am so excited for him to come off the field--win or lose--hopefully win--and greet his girls with kisses, and you will be wearing the ivory onesie covered in light beige footballs that says, "my daddy is my hero."
and although i sense daddy may have been slightly more confident and comfortable changing the diapers of, rough-housing with, and throwing the football to his son, i can't wait for you to be his little girl and to watch that extra special relationship grow throughout the years. i can tell his excitement is growing, but beware, he may try to turn you into a kicker. either way, i assure you, baby, there is nothing like the father-daughter thing.
i think of me and my dad, my mom and hers, carri and sam, ingrid and her dad, and so many others, and am convinced that all will be well.
we both love you already. be good in there. see you in 23 weeks or so.

We'll the way I see it, if Hamster is a baby "girl", you will have the best of both worlds!!! You can dress them up in their pretty little dresses for an outing or church, you can dress them up in "CAMO" or overalls and send them out to play football, softball etc. GIRLS are great!!!
Much love,
JoAnn
Congrats on the baby GIRL! :) Matt will tell you that he was a little "freaked out" when we found out we were having Francis, but geez...it took about a minute and he got over it. Francis has got that guy wrapped around his little finger. ;)
Parenthood is so fun guys... we're thrilled for you.
